TED

TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about.

“TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. In fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa” and “a four-day journey into the future.”

The diverse audience of CEOs, scientists, creatives, and philanthropists is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included former President Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono.

TED was first held in Monterey, California, in 1984. In recent years, TED has expanded to include an international conference, TEDGlobal; media initiatives, including TED Talks and TED.com; and the TEDPrize. Today, more than 1000 talks from past TED conferences are now freely available online at TED.com

TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created TEDx which is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TEDx events bring together thinkers, innovators and artists in one assembly, with the intention of promoting “Ideas Worth Spreading.”

Innovation in collaboration

We are proud that our community supports a coordinated offering of three local TEDx events. As co-founder Tony Karakashian once said, “We have multiple events because Rochester has many ideas worth spreading in any given year."

TEDxRochester

We are TEDxRochester, where x = independently organized TED event.

We have a proud history of being one of the inaugural TEDx events in the country. We embrace the TED mission of “Ideas Worth Spreading” and dedicate ourselves to highlighting the brilliance, passion and possibility that is Rochester.

We are passionate about elevating and highlighting ideas worth sharing—across disciplines. Here is where you will hear noteworthy perspectives that inspire, challenge, and spark positive action in our community.

If you have not been to a TEDxRochester event, know that if you do, you will be part of a vibrant and unique “brain spa” TED-like experience right here in Rochester!

You will hear thought leaders and change makers, see performing artists and participate in workshops/labs and discussions around ideas that matter. As a TEDx attendee, you play an important part as you too go “all-in”. You will have the opportunity to engage in deep listening, perhaps meet-up with old friends and definitely make new connections across fields, disciplines, backgrounds and generations. Our TEDxRochester community, or “Friends of TEDxRoc” have a passion for learning, a shared appreciation for innovative thinking and doing, a curiosity about the world and a genuine willingness to be surprised and challenged.

TEDxRochesterSalons

TED Salons welcome an intimate audience for an afternoon or evening of highly-curated TED Talks revolving around a globally relevant theme. A condensed version of a TED flagship conference, they are distinct in their brevity, opportunities for conversation, and heightened interaction between the speaker and audience.

TEDCircles

It’s a new TED initiative and TEDxRochester is one of 150 Pilot Hosts across 40 countries who volunteered to invite friends, neighbors, strangers, or a mix - many who've never attended TED or TEDx events - to discuss a variety of interesting topics.
